Religion

Basic religion in Cyprus, as well as in Russia, is Orthodoxy. Christianity is a golden thread in the lace of Cypriot history and it is not by accident that Cyprus is the island closest to the Sacred Land. Several functioning monasteries have been preserved to the present day, including the monastery of Kykkos which is located in the hilly region of Troodos, 10km west of the village of Pedoulas.

Most of the population (85%) are Greek Orthodox Christians, but there are representatives of many other religious denominations too – Armenians, Maronites, Roman Catholics and Muslems.
